The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting was disclosed on Friday by Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, in a post on X.
Dada shared a video of the meeting with the caption, “President Bola Tinubu meets in audience Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, the governorship candidate of the APC in the recently concluded Osun State gubernatorial elections.”
Oyebamiji’s visit came days after he lost the election to the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party.
Speaking after his meeting with the President, Oyebamiji appealed to residents of Osun State to remain peaceful, stressing that government was about the people.
“It is important for us that we, Nigerians, have to know that government is about people, and it’s about people, and it’s about people.
“And because it’s about people, it is important that we need to be peaceful, and I want to appeal to our people in Osun that they need to be peaceful,” he said.
Oyebamiji said the APC was still examining the results of the election before deciding on its next step.
“For now, the APC is still examining the books, and by the time we spread our sheet, we’ll be able to get back to the public and listen to what our own opinion and what decisions we want to take.
“But the take-home is that they should be calm,” he said.
He also urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to appeal to his supporters to avoid violence, saying such actions would ultimately hurt the people of the state.
“They should be calm, and I want to advise the governor too that it’s important for him to talk to his people. Violence is against our people. It’s not too good, and he needs to talk to them so that each and every one of us can be on the same page,” he said.
The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
When asked about his post-election statement in which he raised concerns that some APC members were attacked in the state after the results were declared, Oyebamiji said some people were attacked in his hometown, Ikire.
He said the incident occurred on Friday morning and that about four or five people were attacked.
“It was at this morning in my own village, Ikire. Some were attacked. About four or five people were attacked. We have informed the security operatives accordingly.
“That’s all I have to say about that,” he said.
Oyebamiji’s visit came days after he lost the election to the incumbent governor, Ademola Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes. The governor won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while the APC candidate won 11.
The ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, came third with 17,180 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission’s State Returning Officer, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, declared Adeleke the winner on Sunday, August 16.
Following the election, Tinubu congratulated Adeleke on his victory, describing it as a reflection of the people’s will and a sign that democracy continued to flourish in Nigeria.
The President also urged Adeleke to unite the people of Osun and focus on the development of the state.
Adeleke subsequently thanked Tinubu for his role in ensuring what he described as a free and fair election, while reaffirming his support for the President’s re-election bid in 2027.
On Thursday, August 20, Adeleke visited Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where he presented his Certificate of Return to the President.
During the meeting, Tinubu urged Adeleke to show “magnanimity in victory” and promote unity, peace and stability in the state.
The governor later told journalists that he visited the President to thank him for allowing a free and fair election and for his role in sustaining democracy in Nigeria.
Oyebamiji’s meeting with Tinubu comes a day after Adeleke’s visit to the President.
