The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has commenced infrastructure projects estimated at over N1bn at its national headquarters in Sauka, Abuja, with completion targeted for December.
The Commandant-General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Audi, stated this on Thursday during the groundbreaking ceremony, according to a statement issued by the Corps’ spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi.
Audi stated that the projects were aimed at improving the headquarters’ facilities and repositioning the agency for effective service delivery.
The DG noted that the projects include the construction of a new entrance gate and quarter guard, rehabilitation of internal access roads and installation of solar-powered streetlights.
Audi said the projects were expected to be completed within eight weeks and commissioned before the end of December.
“We want to give the National Headquarters a befitting aesthetic look so that it will be in tandem with global best practice.
“We have also designed, and the management, through our Tenders Board, has approved the construction of a befitting quarter guard and the access roads within the headquarters,” he said.
The NSCDC boss said the initiative was part of his administration’s four-point agenda of resuscitation, rejuvenation, re-engineering and repositioning.
He explained that the projects were being funded through intervention support rather than the Corps’ regular budget, while commending President Bola Tinubu for providing the support and enabling environment for their execution.
Audi assured that the quality of the projects would be monitored by the Corps’ team of professional engineers, architects and builders to ensure compliance with required standards.
He said the infrastructure upgrade was part of a broader effort to strengthen the Corps’ institutional capacity and improve its operational readiness amid evolving security challenges.
The Commandant-General described the NSCDC as a critical component of Nigeria’s internal security architecture, particularly in protecting critical national assets and infrastructure.
“The military, the police, other paramilitary agencies and the intelligence community have made significant contributions to strengthening national security.
“We will continue to promote inter-agency collaboration and leverage the professional expertise of the military to improve the capacity and operational effectiveness of our personnel,” he said.
Audi further disclosed that the Corps had begun preparations for the Yuletide period, with plans for overt and covert operations, intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies.
He assured Nigerians that the NSCDC would support security efforts before, during and after the festive period, as well as ahead of the 2027 general elections.
