Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has denied hiring or sponsoring the political thugs tormenting Ondo and Ekiti people. The Governor also distanced himself from an alleged acquisition of blank warrants of arrest in favour of some candidates of his political party, Labour Party.
His Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, who spoke for the Governor when YES INTERNATIONAL! called him on Thursday, April 10, 2014 said: “Those insinuating that are lazy rumour mongers. Their source as well as they themselves are not credible. They are only looking for relevance and attention. They should find something serious doing. The Governor is busy looking for all means to better the lives of everyone in the state while some people would be idle somewhere saying things that are not credible. My brother, leave them, they are not credible”. Some groups in the State, it would be recalled, had alleged that Mimiko’s agents at the just concluded bye-election in Ilaje/Ese-Odo constituency of Ondo, which was later declared inconclusive by INEC, were openly distributing N10, 000 and N15, 000 to each electorate to vote for Labour Party. According to them, “The least amount that those that voted for Labour Party collected was N5, 000”. They further alleged that residents of the two local governments abandoned the candidate of the APC, Adewale Omojuwa, who had built schools, roads, health centres, portable water and many infrastructure for them to collect N10, 000 from Mimiko that has not rehabilitated roads up to 10km in the two Local Governments since year 2009 when he became Governor. Adding that Mimiko didn’t campaign in Ilaje/Ese Odo during his election the way he campaigned and lavished money on the bye-election. YES INTERNATIONAL! was also informed by a source in the state that in a desperate bid to scuttle opposition’s chances in both Ondo and Ekiti elections, Governor Mimiko has secured about 20 copies of blank warrants of arrest! We were informed that he has covertly arranged 20 Warrants of Arrest from a Magistrate Court against some opposition leaders in Ilaje and Ese-Odo local government areas of Ondo State and that he’s extending same to the neighbouring Ekiti State, which again he denied via his Commissioner.
