‘Not a burden – an emotion laden movie for children with Neuro developmental disorders such as autism, cerebral palsy and others is currently having massive positive reviews.
The movie trailer which was displayed at the just concluded Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit in Abuja, the Federal Capital territory of Nigeria had participants held spell bound.
The summit that had Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima and over 2,000 participants, including 72 identified Nigerian Diaspora investors, 196 small business owners, 148 representatives of private sector entities and 88 public officials from various Ministries, Departments and Agencies in attendance in person while about 1,250 participated virtually.
Full of emotions, first class acting and talent discoveries, Ambassador Dr. Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, the director/producer of the film got people on their feet, shedding tears uncontrollably in an uncurtailed emotion laden atmosphere as the movie trailer was pitched in anticipation to raise interest for potential sponsors to enable massive premieres and screenings of the movie to target audiences across the world and true to type it lived to its bidding!
Seeing first hand evidence that what we ordinarily consider as nothing being proven to be something in the movie, ‘Not a burden’ elicited a lot of lessons and emotions.
An initiative of Royal School of Educational Therapy Foundation in collaboration with Lancelot Imasuen’s Media Network Limited, ‘Not a burden’ is another masterpiece from the Africa’s most consistent filmmaker in his quest in continuing to give back to the society.
The executive producer of the movie, Princess Dr. Badewa T. Adejugbe-Williams, an accomplished Educational Specialist, Educational Therapist, Director, Producer, Stage Manager, Actress and Model. Dr. Adejugbe-Williams was a former General Manager of the Abuja Film Village International Ltd, an initiative of the Federal Capital Territory Administration charged with making Abuja and by extension Nigeria an entertainment capital in Africa. She is also the Chair and Executive Director of the Nigeria Diaspora Summit Initiative (NDSI), the organizers of the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit in collaboration with Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) under the chairmanship of Hon. Dr. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, OON.
Dr. Adejugbe-Williams is the founder of the Royal School of Educational Therapy Foundation, a non-profit that provides therapeutic services for persons with neurodevelopmental disabilities and learning disorders.
She runs this educational facility that is tilted towards the need of special children, children with neuro developmental disorders which include, autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome among others.
‘Not a burden’ brought these children together and made them to tell their stories and indeed they featured in this film with other notable Nollywood star actors like; Ali Nuhu, Francis Duru, Empress Njama, Fiona Garba, Adaku Dike, Demola Ogunsi and several other actors; who all came together to tell their stories.
A compelling story of how the society has neglected and reduced these children to a position of nothing.
The film was able to prove that there’s something in everything even from those we considered as useless. It was a great outing. According to Dr. Lancelot, “The experience was massive. As far as I’m concerned, this remains one of the best films I’ve produced because of the circumstances that surround this production and the fact that its the kind of the movie that is going to open our eyes to the realities that these things we think do not count, do count and the people we think are nothing are much more than we can always imagine.”
“You will see how through this movie, people are going to realise that we have been unfair to them, underestimated them and that God doesn’t make mistakes. They may be challenged in one area or the other, but in several other areas they are much more than we can imagine. You are going to see these children metamorphose into different things in life. This movie remains an experience I will take to my grave and I feel very proud and humbled that I’m able to raise the team that produced the film.”
