GTCO’s Market Value Plummets 31% to N1.097 Trillion, Down from 52-Week High

Guaranty Trust Holdings Company Plc (GTCO) has experienced a significant decline in its market value, falling by 31% to N1.097 trillion, according to data from the Nigerian Exchange (NGX).

The company’s stock price has been on a downward trend, losing 6.75% over the past seven trading sessions, closing at N37.3 per share on Friday.

The banking sector has been negatively impacted by the Central Bank of Nigeria’s recapitalization directive, leading to a bearish performance in the equity market.

GTCO is the only banking stock with a market valuation above N1 trillion, while FBN Holdings and Zenith Bank have struggled to regain their footing.

Despite the decline, GTCO’s stock is still trading at a discount to its 52-week high of N53.95, and investors who purchased shares at the 52-week low of N26.75 have seen a 39% return.

The current market price presents an opportunity for new entrants and bargain hunters, hoping that GTCO will weather the recapitalization program.
