Timileyin’s death: 25 Ajayi Crowther varsity students arraigned in court

Twenty-five Ajayi Crowther University students were arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court in Oyo on Wednesday for assault and disorderly conduct for allegedly beating a fellow student, Alex Timileyin, to death following a disciplinary dispute at the institution.

Recall that Timileyin was reportedly beaten to death by his colleagues for allegedly stealing a mobile phone, inside a hostel known as Shepherd Inn.

The students, who were said to be aged between 18 and 34, have been remanded in prison until July 8, this year pending trial.

A student of the institution, who preferred anonymity, while speaking with Vanguard, confirmed the arraignment of the 25 students, saying: “Yes, they were arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court in Oyo.”

“Tension is high, as relatives of the deceased student have descended on the city of Oyo to demand justice, staging protests to make their voices heard.

“The situation remains volatile as authorities try to manage the aftermath of the violent incident.”
