Wike Revokes 4,794 Land Titles In FCT Over Non-Payment Of Ground Rent

The Minister Of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has revoked 4,794 land titles due to non-payment of Ground Rent by title owners over a period of 40 years.

The administration says the revocation affects property owners in the Central Area, Garki I and II, Wuse I and II, Asokoro, Maitama, and Guzape Districts.

The FCT administration explained that a total of 8,375 property owners owe about six point nine billion naira ( N6,967,980,119) in Ground Rent, with at least 4,794 land titles in default for more than 10 years.

Despite numerous publications and announcements made by the administration since 2023, some defaulters are said to have failed to pay their outstanding bills necessitating the revocation

The administration says the non payment of ground rent contravenes the terms and conditions of grant of the Rights of Occupancy, in line with the provisions of Section 28, Subsections 5(a) and (b) of the Land Use Act.

A grace period of 21 Days has been given to title holders that are in default of payment of Ground Rent between one and ten years, after which the affected tittles will be revoked.
