An unsettling scandal has rocked Access Bank after a staff member was accused of secretly recording hundreds of colleagues in office restrooms.
Stephen Ifeanyichukwu Ejezie, a former Quality Assurance Specialist at the bank’s contact centre in Oniru, Lagos State, was reportedly caught around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday while attempting to film female staff members in a restroom, sources told the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ).
Following the discovery, Access Bank officials ordered Ejezie’s arrest, and police later raided his residence, uncovering more than 400 videos of male and female staff members. Despite the seriousness of the allegations, Ejezie has since been released from custody.
Though Access Bank has allegedly terminated his employment, many affected staff members fear the case may not be properly pursued. When FIJ first reviewed Ejezie’s LinkedIn profile on Friday, it still listed him as an active employee, but he later updated it to show that he had left the bank.
Ejezie, who joined Access Bank as a contact centre agent in February 2023 and was promoted in October 2023, allegedly hid recording devices in restrooms during overnight shifts, when staff would freshen up or sleep on-site. A female staff member discovered one of the devices hidden in a toilet seat, leading to Ejezie’s capture inside the restroom.
Investigations revealed that some of the recordings were sold online through an OnlyFans account and via Telegram to international buyers, including clients from India and Western countries.
Colleagues described Ejezie as friendly and hardworking, making the revelations even more shocking. “He always checked up on people. No one could have suspected this from him,” a former co-worker said.
The incident has caused widespread panic among staff, with fears that private videos may soon leak online. A management meeting held on Friday failed to ease tensions, as workers were warned against staying overnight at the office but offered no support for the trauma caused.
Several staff members accused the bank of trying to downplay the situation to protect its reputation, especially because many of the affected workers are contract staff.
As of press time, Access Bank had not responded to FIJ’s request for comment.
