Ikorodu witnessed yet another inspiring chapter of compassion and empowerment on October 28, 2025, as the Honourable AbdulKareem Shittu Foundation hosted the 5th Edition of its Free Interest Loan Scheme at the Foundation’s headquarters, 7 Allison Street, Ikorodu, Lagos State. The atmosphere was filled with joy and gratitude as hundreds of small business owners, traders, and artisans from across the division gathered to benefit from a life-changing initiative that has now become a shining example of grassroots empowerment in Lagos State.
In a remarkable demonstration of philanthropy, transparency, and vision-driven leadership, the Honourable AbdulKareem Shittu Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to community development by empowering residents drawn from all six councils of the Ikorodu Division — namely, Ikorodu Local Government, Ikorodu North LCDA, Ikorodu West LCDA, Igbogbo-Bayeku LCDA, Imota LCDA, and Ijede LCDA.
Under this year’s empowerment package, a total of 190 beneficiaries received financial support tailored to their business needs. Specifically, 150 beneficiaries received ₦50,000 each, 30 beneficiaries received ₦100,000 each, and 10 beneficiaries received ₦200,000 each — all at zero interest. The disbursement process was conducted openly and efficiently, with a repayment structure designed to encourage responsibility, discipline, and growth among participants.
The program’s success reflects Honourable AbdulKareem Olugbenga Shittu’s long-standing commitment to building an economically independent and self-reliant citizenry. Since inception, the Foundation has consistently bridged the gap between governance and the governed through impactful initiatives in economic empowerment, education, and social welfare. This fifth edition of the loan scheme has further solidified its reputation as a model for sustainable, community-driven development.
Speaking during the event, representatives of the Foundation emphasized that the loan scheme is not just an act of charity, but a practical demonstration of Hon. Shittu’s belief that leadership must be seen and felt through action, compassion, and accountability. They described the initiative as a cornerstone of his broader vision for grassroots transformation in Ikorodu, noting that it aligns with his consistent advocacy for inclusive development and people-oriented governance.
Hon. Shittu, who was visibly moved by the overwhelming show of appreciation from beneficiaries, expressed his gratitude to God and to the people of Ikorodu for their continued trust and support. In his brief remarks, he said the Free Interest Loan Scheme was designed to reduce the financial pressures faced by local traders and artisans who contribute daily to the local economy but often lack access to formal credit systems.
“We created this program to support hardworking people who have dreams but lack the capital to grow. We believe that real empowerment starts from the grassroots, and by God’s grace, we will continue to do more for our people,” he said to a resounding applause from the crowd.

Tungba FM and several other radio stations across Ikorodu had earlier aired special enlightenment programs and advertisements to inform residents about the initiative. The grand event was also covered by Standard Trust Newspaper, TVC (Television Continental), and other reputable news platforms and online bloggers who highlighted the foundation’s impact and transparency.
Beneficiaries who spoke with journalists expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, describing it as both timely and life-changing. Many explained how the support would enable them to expand their businesses, settle debts, and improve their livelihoods.
One of the recipients, Mrs. Adetutu Adebayo, a small-scale trader from Igbogbo, said the assistance was a “divine relief” at a time when business conditions have been tough. “This is the second time I am benefiting from the foundation’s program. The first support helped me boost my sales, and this one will help me restock and plan ahead for Christmas. May God continue to bless Hon. Shittu for remembering people like us,” she said.
Another beneficiary, Mr. Ganiu Bello, an artisan from Imota, described the initiative as a life-saver. “No bank will give us loans without collateral. But this foundation came to our aid with no interest attached. I can now buy more tools and materials for my workshop. This is what true empowerment looks like,” he said joyfully.
As prayers and songs of thanksgiving filled the air, it was evident that the people’s affection for Honourable AbdulKareem Shittu goes beyond words. His consistency, humility, and unwavering commitment to human development have earned him admiration across all six councils of the division.
Community leaders present at the event praised him for setting a new standard of leadership rooted in service, empathy, and transparency. They noted that his foundation has remained steadfast in empowering residents, even at times when many others have abandoned community-based projects.
