President Bola Tinubu has praised his son, Seyi, for his activities with the City Boy Movement, urging him to do more, serve harder and set an example for future generations.
The President spoke on Monday at an event organised by the movement at the State House, where he took a moment to address his son personally, saying he was proud of the way he had mobilised young people without seeking a political title or office.
“Now permit me a personal moment, with my son, Seyi. I have watched what you’ve started with City Boy. I got some calls within the last few weeks asking me what is Seyi running for. He’s running after his father,” Tinubu said.
He commended Seyi and his colleagues for investing their time in engaging young people, listening to them and organising them.
“You and your young colleagues, you are investing your time effectively. We are with you. Thank you. You did it humbly. You did not ask for a title or an office.
“You went to the young people, your age groups, your group. You listened to them and you organized them. I am proud of all of you,” the President said.
However, Tinubu urged his son not to rest on his achievements, saying he expected him to do more in the years ahead.
“But I will tell you what every father tells his son. You have only started. Do more.
“Go further. Serve harder. Set an example that your own children, my grandchildren, will be proud to follow,” he said.
The President added that Nigerians were watching the younger generation and should see national service as an honour.
“Nigeria is watching so they know that to serve your country is the highest honour,” he said.
Seyi Tinubu is the patron of the City Boy Movement, a group that mobilises young people in support of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The movement has organised activities aimed at grassroots mobilisation and youth participation in public affairs.
The President’s remarks come amid growing public attention on Seyi’s political activities and role in the movement.
At his 41st birthday colloquium in Lagos on October 12, Seyi urged young Nigerians to participate in decision-making and take responsibility for shaping the country’s future.
